Free ATS resume checker
Upload a PDF, Word or text file, or paste your resume for a content checklist score, practical suggestions, and job-description keyword matching. Runs in your browser — no signup, nothing uploaded.
This is a content checklist, not an employer’s ATS score or an interview prediction. Pasted text cannot reveal problems in the original file’s layout. Read the scoring method and limitations.
The readiness score covers essential name, email and relevant evidence checks. Optional writing advice does not lower it. This is not an employer screening prediction.
Files and text are analyzed in your browser. Choose “Review in builder” to transfer your text within this tab for 30 minutes; it is saved to your resume only after you confirm the import.
Paste a job posting to see which of its keywords your resume already covers — and which it is missing.
What makes a resume ATS-friendly?
An ATS-friendly resume stores every word as genuine selectable text, uses standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), and keeps roles, dates, and bullets in a linear top-to-bottom reading order so applicant tracking systems can extract fields accurately before a recruiter reviews your application.
How to use a suggestion without chasing a score
Suppose your draft says “Worked on a team project.” A useful edit explains what you contributed: “Implemented the booking form and documented its date-validation rules for a team capstone.” This is a fictional writing example, not a measured score improvement. Use the wording only if it describes your work.
If keyword comparison suggests a tool you have never used, leave it out. If it suggests a skill you do have, explain where you used it. The comparison matches words; it cannot verify experience or decide whether you meet a job’s requirements.
ATS checker FAQ
What is an ATS resume checker?
ResumeForU’s checker applies a content checklist to text pasted or extracted from a PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown file. It looks for contact details, experience, education, skills and selected writing signals. It does not reproduce an employer’s applicant tracking system or inspect the original PDF layout.
Is my resume uploaded or stored?
The checker reads and analyzes your resume in your browser. If you choose Review in builder, your text is held in this tab’s session storage for up to 30 minutes. You review the extracted sections before confirming an import; confirmed builder content is saved to your resume. Closing the tab discards the temporary handoff.
What score should I aim for?
80 or more earns this tool’s Excellent label, 55–79 is Good, and below 55 is Needs Improvement. These are checklist bands, not employer thresholds or interview probabilities. Consider each suggestion in context; do not add unnecessary sections or invented metrics to raise a score.
What does the job description match do?
The tool takes up to 30 frequent words after filtering common English words and numbers, then checks for those words in selected resume sections. It does not understand synonyms, eligibility or the employer’s priorities. Include a suggested skill only when it accurately describes your experience.
Is it really free?
Yes. The checklist and keyword comparison are free with no signup. The builder is free to start; one payment unlocks one resume’s PDF, Word and TXT exports, ongoing edits and re-downloads. Additional saved resumes are purchased separately.
