Is free Canva enough for a resume?
Yes, it can be. Canva offers free resume creation and PDF downloads. If you are comfortable editing a design and your final file meets the employer's instructions, paying for another builder is optional. ResumeForU is worth considering when you want guided resume sections, template switching, named job versions and PDF, editable Word and TXT exports together.
Disclosure: Nodesify publishes ResumeForU. Canva's official resume page was checked on 19 October 2026. This compares documented workflows, not measured editing speed, recruiter preference or hiring outcomes. Canva features and asset availability can vary by plan; confirm that your chosen design and elements are free before downloading.

When would I stay with Canva?
Stay with Canva if you already have a design you can maintain, need an accepted PDF and prefer its visual controls. Try exporting a short draft early. Check that the elements you selected do not introduce a charge and that the downloaded file contains the right text.
A free tool that meets your requirements is a good choice. Paying for ResumeForU is a decision about its workflow and included formats, rather than a requirement for making a professional resume.
When would I choose ResumeForU?
Choose it when you prefer entering experience, education and skills into guided sections and switching core templates without retyping the content. The purchase includes later edits and re-downloads while the service operates. Save a base version and named variations for different roles instead of buying a new independently saved resume for every application.
For example, use one base resume for a frontend role, a backend role and a support engineering role. Reorder and emphasize your truthful evidence for each, save each version, then restore and export the correct one. Follow the worked tailoring example.
The core purchase does not include human resume review or AI writing. First and last names lock in the editor 15 minutes after payment; support handles later genuine corrections. Additional independently saved resumes need separate purchases. Check the full purchase scope.
Is a Canva resume bad for ATS software?
The tool name alone does not answer that question. Check selectable text, reading order, section headings and the uploaded application fields in the actual export from either tool. Do not assume Canva fails or ResumeForU guarantees acceptance. Our format guide and ATS methodology explain the checks and their limits.
How can I decide before paying?
Download our fictional PDF, Word and TXT samples, then build a free preview with your own content. Compare a short draft in each tool, including a longer experience entry that may affect pagination. Word and PDF layouts can differ; inspect each separately.
If your free Canva export already meets the application requirements and you like maintaining it, you may have no reason to switch. If ResumeForU's guided editing, included formats and job versions make the work easier for you, inspect the preview and current price before buying.
